TelePsychiatry
FAQ's
Q What is Telepsychiatry?
Telepsychiatry is the practice of psychiatry through a secure internet connection in which the patient in their home is linked to a psychiatrist in his/her office with the help of video chatting applications such as Skype and Facetime. Patients are seen at their convenience during evenings and weekends via the use of televideo equipment( computer, webcam, speakers and microphone). This enables a face-to-face consultation that occurs in real time. Everyone involved including patients, family members and psychiatrists benefit from this technology . Telepsychiatry resolves geographic barriers enabling people in even the most remote places to see a qualified consultant psychiatrist.

Q How will you benefit from telepsychiatry?
You do not have to leave home to see a psychiatrist.

You are seen at your convenience (evenings and weekends)

There is no time wasted for travelling to a hospital to see a psychiatrist.

Less stress on carers, friends and family members as they do not have to accompany you to hospital

Telepsychiatry service is usually cheaper than the service provided by most private hospitals.

As you do not have to sit in a lobby of a NHS or private hospital, there is much less risk of someone you know seeing you and thus breaking your confidentiality. It also eliminates the risk of you being assaulted or attacked by an unstable patient in a hospital lobby. You are also less prone to get contagious infections as you are not seen in a hospital

Telepsychiatry is also cost effective and good for the environment.

Q What are the limits of confidentiality?
We provide a confidential and discreet service and we will not disclose or release your information to others without your consent, but there are some circumstances where we will be forced to breach confidentiality and report the matter to respective authorities. Confidentiality may be breached in the following circumstances

If your psychiatrist believes that you have caused harm or are likely to cause harm to other people including children.

If your psychiatrist is convinced that you are a significant risk to yourself. In that case we will only reveal or release the necessary information that is required to protect your health and safety
